How do I install JobTally?
Open the Chrome Web Store and search for JobTally, or follow the link on the JobTally homepage. Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm the installation. Once installed, open Gmail in Chrome and you'll see the JobTally panel available in the sidebar.
Does JobTally work in browsers other than Chrome?
No. JobTally is a Chrome extension and only works in Google Chrome on desktop. It does not work in Firefox, Safari, Edge, or mobile browsers.
Do I need to create an account?
No. JobTally does not have user accounts. You just install the extension, grant Gmail read-only access when prompted, and start scanning. Nothing is tied to a username or password.
Permissions
What Gmail permission does JobTally need?
JobTally requests only the gmail.readonly scope. This allows it to read email subjects, snippets, sender addresses, and dates. It cannot write, send, delete, archive, or modify any email or inbox setting.
Why does JobTally need access to my Gmail at all?
Job application tracking only works by reading your emails. Without Gmail access, JobTally has nothing to scan. The read-only scope is the minimum required to provide the feature.
How do I revoke access if I want to stop using JobTally?
Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, find JobTally in the list of connected apps, and click Remove Access. You can also just uninstall the extension from Chrome — either way, the connection is severed immediately.
My organization manages my Google account. Will JobTally work?
It depends on your organization's settings. Some organizations restrict third-party app access to Gmail. If you see a permission error when trying to scan, check with your IT administrator about whether the gmail.readonly scope is allowed for external apps.
Using JobTally
How do I run a scan?
Open Gmail in Chrome, open the JobTally side panel, and click "Scan My Inbox." The scan runs in real time — it reads your recent emails, classifies them, and shows your dashboard. Scans usually complete in a few seconds.
What does "Ghosted" mean?
A company is marked as Ghosted when you applied more than 60 days ago and JobTally has found no response email from them since. It means the company went silent — no rejection, no interview invite, no follow-up.
How do I open the original email for a ghosted company?
Click on the company's row in the Ghosted section of the dashboard. JobTally will open the original email thread directly in your Gmail so you can see the full context.
Does JobTally scan my entire inbox history?
JobTally scans recent emails. The exact time window depends on the scan settings. It is designed to cover your active job search period, not your full email history going back years.
Accuracy and troubleshooting
The scan seems to be missing some of my applications. What should I do?
JobTally detects applications by reading email subjects and snippets. If a company sent a non-standard confirmation email (e.g., with an unusual subject like "You're in!" instead of "Application received"), it may be missed. You can report specific examples to us so we can improve the keyword matching.
JobTally classified an email as a rejection but it wasn't one. What happened?
Keyword matching is not perfect. Some promotional or update emails from companies can trigger rejection keywords unintentionally. If you're seeing a pattern of misclassifications, email us the type of email that's being misclassified (not the email itself) and we'll work to improve it.
The extension isn't loading inside Gmail. What should I try?
First, try refreshing your Gmail tab. If that doesn't work, disable and re-enable the extension from chrome://extensions. If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling. If it still doesn't work, email us at admin@presdinworks.in with your Chrome version and a description of what you see.
How do I report a bug?
Email admin@presdinworks.in with a description of what happened, what you expected to happen, and your Chrome version (found at chrome://settings/help). Screenshots are helpful if the issue is visual.
Privacy
Is my email data stored anywhere?
No. JobTally does not store any email content, metadata, or scan results on any server. Every scan runs in real time — data is read, processed, and discarded. There is no database of your email history.
What happens to the snippets sent for AI classification?
Short email snippets (up to 500 characters) are sent through our own backend proxy at api.presdinworks.in to an AI model for classification. The snippet is not stored after the classification result is returned. Your data never goes directly to a third-party AI service.
Does JobTally share my data with advertisers?
No. We do not share any user data with advertisers or advertising networks. JobTally is free and ad-free — we do not monetize user data in any form.
