Under the hood
How JobTally Works
Authentication
When you click "Scan My Inbox", JobTally connects to your Gmail account using Google's official OAuth 2.0 authentication. You will be prompted to grant read-only access to your Gmail messages. JobTally cannot send, delete, or modify any emails or settings.
Email scanning
Once connected, JobTally searches your inbox for emails related to job applications using keyword filters on email subjects. For each matched email, JobTally reads the first 500 characters of the message body to determine its status — whether it is an application confirmation, rejection, interview invitation, or job offer.
AI classification
To classify emails accurately, JobTally sends the email subject and partial message content (first 500 characters) to a secure backend server operated by Presdin Works LLC at api.presdinworks.in. This server forwards the content to Gemini, a third-party AI service, solely for the purpose of classification. No email content is logged, saved, or retained by Presdin Works LLC or Gemini after classification is complete.
Results and privacy
All results — your applied count, rejections, interviews, and ghosted companies — are displayed directly within your Gmail interface and discarded the moment you close the panel. Nothing is written to a database. Nothing is tied to your identity. Every scan starts fresh. JobTally never stores your emails, your Gmail credentials, or any personally identifiable information on any server.
How it works
Install the extension
Add JobTally to Chrome from the Web Store in a few seconds. No account, no sign-up — just install and open Gmail.
Requires Chrome. Works inside Gmail on desktop.
Click "Scan My Inbox"
A side panel opens inside Gmail. Hit scan and JobTally reads your email subjects and snippets using the Gmail API. It only requests read-only access — it can never write, send, or delete anything.
You'll be asked to grant Gmail read-only access on first use.
Keyword matching and AI classification
Rejection patterns are caught automatically by keyword matching. AI classifies everything else — interview invites, follow-ups, ghosted threads — in real time. Nothing is stored between scans.
AI classification runs via our own backend proxy. Your data never goes directly to a third-party AI service.

Applied
Total applications JobTally detected in your inbox. Found automatically from confirmation emails, application acknowledgements, and follow-up threads.
Rejected
Companies that sent a rejection. Caught by keyword matching across email subjects and snippets — "unfortunately", "moved forward with other candidates", and similar patterns.
Ghosted
Companies you applied to 60 or more days ago with no response. The silent ones you might have mentally written off — now counted and visible.
Interviews
Companies that engaged and moved you forward. Detected from scheduling emails, interview confirmation threads, and recruiter follow-ups.
Privacy first
Built so you never have to worry about what we do with your data.
Read-only Gmail access
JobTally requests only the gmail.readonly scope. It can read emails — it cannot write, send, delete, or modify anything in your inbox.
Zero server storage
We don't store, log, or retain any of your email data. Every scan runs fresh in memory and is discarded when you close the panel.
AI via our own proxy
Email snippets sent for AI classification go through our backend at api.presdinworks.in — not directly to a third-party API. We control the pipeline.
Uninstall anytime
Remove JobTally from Chrome and nothing persists. There are no accounts to delete, no data to request erasure of — because nothing was ever stored.
