Overview
JobTally is a free Chrome extension built by Presdin Works LLC (presdinworks.in). It connects to Gmail to help you track your job applications automatically. This policy explains exactly what data JobTally accesses, what happens to that data, and what we do not do with it.
The short version: we access your Gmail on a read-only basis during a scan, nothing is stored on our servers, and the data is discarded as soon as the scan is complete.
Google API Limited Use Disclosure
JobTally's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically: Gmail data accessed through the Google API is used solely to provide the job application tracking features described in this policy. It is not used for advertising, is not used to train AI or machine learning models, is not shared with or sold to third parties for any purpose unrelated to the core feature, and is not used to build a profile of the user for any purpose outside of providing the service.
What permission JobTally requests
JobTally requests one Gmail permission:
- gmail.readonly — this scope allows JobTally to read your email messages and metadata. It is the minimum scope needed to scan your inbox for job application emails.
The gmail.readonly scope is strictly read-only. JobTally cannot write, send, delete, archive, label, or modify any email or inbox setting. It cannot compose emails on your behalf. It cannot access Google Drive, Calendar, or any other Google service.
OAuth token storage
When you authorize JobTally through Google's OAuth 2.0 flow, Google issues an access token that allows the extension to read your Gmail during a scan. This token is stored locally on your device only, inside Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage). It is never transmitted to or stored on any Presdin Works LLC server. Presdin Works LLC has no access to your OAuth token.
You can revoke this token at any time from your Google Account permissions page. Uninstalling the extension from Chrome also removes the locally stored token.
What data is accessed during a scan
When you click "Scan My Inbox," JobTally reads the following from your Gmail account:
- Email subjects — used to detect application confirmations, rejection emails, and interview invitations by keyword matching.
- Email snippets (first 500 characters of the email body) — used for AI classification of emails that are not caught by keyword matching alone.
- Sender name and email address — used to identify and group emails by company.
- Email date — used to calculate how long ago you applied and whether a company should be marked as ghosted (60+ days with no response).
JobTally does not read the full body of your emails beyond the snippet. It does not access attachments. It does not read emails unrelated to job searching.
What is NOT stored
No email content, email metadata, sender information, or scan results are stored on any Presdin Works LLC server or database. Every scan runs entirely in real time: data is read from Gmail, processed in memory, and the results are displayed in the extension panel. When you close the panel or run a new scan, the previous results are discarded.
We do not keep logs of which emails you scanned, what your results were, or how many applications you have. There is no user account and no persistent record tied to your identity.
Data security and protection mechanisms
JobTally applies the following technical and organisational measures to protect sensitive Gmail data at every stage of processing:
- Encryption in transit (TLS) — all communication between the extension and the Google Gmail API is carried over HTTPS using TLS 1.2 or higher, enforced by Google's infrastructure. All communication between the extension and our backend proxy at api.presdinworks.in is also transmitted exclusively over HTTPS/TLS. Email data is never transmitted over an unencrypted channel.
- OAuth token security — your Google OAuth access token is stored solely within Chrome's sandboxed extension storage (chrome.storage), which is isolated from other browser extensions and web pages by Chrome's security model. The token is never transmitted to or stored on any Presdin Works LLC server.
- In-memory processing only — Gmail data fetched during a scan is held exclusively in the extension's runtime memory. It is never written to disk, a local database, browser storage, or any external server. The data is released from memory when the scan completes or the panel is closed.
- Data minimisation — only the minimum data required to perform classification is transmitted to our proxy: the email subject line and the Gmail-provided snippet (typically under 200 characters). Full email bodies, attachments, recipient lists, thread histories, and account identifiers are never sent.
- Access controls and operational logging — the proxy server at api.presdinworks.in is operated exclusively by Presdin Works LLC. Access to the server and its logs is restricted to authorised Presdin Works LLC personnel only. Operational logs (email ID and subject line) are retained by the hosting platform for up to 7 days for debugging purposes and then automatically deleted. No email content beyond the subject line is logged.
- No persistent storage of sensitive data — Presdin Works LLC does not operate any database that stores email content, Gmail metadata, OAuth tokens, or user identifiers. There is no data at rest to protect beyond the token stored locally in your browser.
AI classification and the Gemini API
To classify emails that are not caught by keyword matching (for example, distinguishing an interview invitation from a generic company newsletter), JobTally sends data to an AI model for classification. Specifically, the following is transmitted to our backend server at api.presdinworks.in for each email being classified:
- The email subject line
- The Gmail-provided email snippet (typically under 200 characters)
Our backend server then forwards this content to Gemini, a third-party AI service, solely for the purpose of classification. Your data is never sent directly to Gemini from the extension — it always passes through our proxy first. Neither Presdin Works LLC nor Gemini retains the email subject or snippet after the classification result is returned.
No other email content is transmitted. The data sent for classification is not accompanied by your name, Gmail address, Google account ID, or any other identifying information.
Third-party services
- Google (Gmail API) — JobTally accesses your Gmail account through the official Google OAuth flow and Gmail API. Your use of Google services is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Gemini (via Presdin Works LLC proxy) — email snippets are forwarded to Gemini's API for classification through our backend proxy. Gemini processes these snippets according to their own data handling policies. Snippets are not stored after classification.
- Presdin Works LLC backend (api.presdinworks.in) — our proxy server receives classification requests from the extension, forwards them to Gemini, and returns the result. No request content is stored after the response is delivered.
